Pose is a series set in the New York ballroom scene in the 80s and 90s. This is to say, it’s a show about Black and Latina queer New Yorkers, the HIV/AIDs pandemic, and the forms of community, glamour, and family forged therein. It begins with a fair bit of heavy material, very much in the mode of gritty prestige TV, before achieving escape velocity in its third season through an aeronautic ascent into wish fulfilment. Blanca is a perfect human being. Electra did nothing wrong.
Hackers (1995)Like a wine aged in oak barrels in some distant French estate, this film has developed new notes over the past years and is now ready for decorking. The fashion: astounding. The digital graphics about digital graphics: beautiful and often analog. The villain: a maniacal short king. The actors: all somehow surely part of the alphabet mafia, save perhaps the chain-smoking 15 year old boy. Please treat yourself to these delights.
